Of Monsters and Men

Of Monsters and Men is a five-piece, English-language, indie folk/pop band from Iceland, formed in 2010. The members are lead singer/guitarist Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, co-singer/guitarist Ragnar "Raggi" Þórhallsson, guitarist Brynjar Leifsson, drummer Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson and bassist Kristján Páll Kristjánsson. The band won the Músíktilraunir in 2010, an annual battle of the bands competition in Iceland. In 2011, Of Monsters and Men released an EP titled Into the Woods. The band's debut album My Head Is an Animal (2011), reached the No.1 position in Australia, Iceland, Ireland and the US Rock and Alternative Charts, while peaking at No. 6 on the US Billboard 200 album chart, No. 3 in the UK, and Top 20 of most European charts and Canada. Its lead single "Little Talks" was an international success, reaching the Top 10 in most music charts in Europe, including No.1 in Ireland and Iceland, and No. 1 on US Alternative Songs.
Of Monsters and Men is a winner of the 2013 European Border Breakers Awards.

The Airborne Toxic Event

The Airborne Toxic Event is an American indie rock band from Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. It consists of Mikel Jollett (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Steven Chen (guitar, keyboards), Noah Harmon (electric bass, upright bass, backing vocals), Daren Taylor (drums) and Anna Bulbrook (viola, keyboards, tambourine, backing vocals). The band released its debut self-titled album in 2008 and released its follow-up album, All at Once, on April 26, 2011.
Named after a section of the book White Noise, by Don DeLillo, the group is known for its blend of rock music and orchestral arrangements, having performed frequently with the Calder Quartet, a string quartet based in Los Angeles. The group has also played concerts with the Louisville Orchestra and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.

"Le cauchemar de Kipling" est le troisième album du groupe, et le premier à être commercialisé. De douces mélodies acoustiques ("marchand de Bonheur", "1, 2, 3"...), sont alternées avec de puissants riffs rock, toutes guitares dehors ("visionnaire", "Fanny", "Schizo"...).

Les textes de cet album abordent des thèmes difficiles : euthanasie, violences conjugales, tourisme sexuel, folie, alcoolisme, drogue, rupture... Ces textes sont écrits sous une plume objective, descriptive, mais gardent une certaine distance, ainsi qu'une pointe de sarcasme et d'humour noir. Des textes qui donnent à réfléchir et incitent à porter un certain regard, pas forcément optimiste, sur le monde. A noter que certains textes décrivent des histoires vraies, ou sont inspirés de faits réels.
